Hand Dyed Shibori Silk Guitar Straps

Brooke E. Poirier- Brunk wore many hats during her lifetime; mother, business executive and artist.
 
While earning her double major in the Fiber Arts and Art History at the Kansas City Art Institute during the late 1990’s, she found a new passion. Shibori, or the Japanese process of dyeing fabric by binding it with strings. This creative process took a hold of Brooke’s imagination. Using this unique method, Brooke would tie intricate patterns into bolts of raw silk, and dye it with both subtle and bold colors. After this painstaking process was complete, Brooke would create garments, purses, ties, and art pieces with the brilliantly colored fabric. The weight of the silk, its luxurious texture, and the rich colors led many to ask Brooke to create items of wearable art for them. In response, the company Brooke Works was born, the unique silk creations were sold in both Kansas City and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
 
These successes were soon overshadowed, however, by the diagnosis of cancer. Tragically, Brooke passed away on Nov. 14, 2007, leaving behind many beautiful silk creations.
 
Jaykco guitars straps was recently contacted by Brooke's son Desmond with the idea of making some one off straps with her fabric to honor her memory and help generate monies for Cancer research. Like too many people in this world we here at Jaykco have also just lost a very close loved one to Cancer.
 
We are honored to offer you these beautiful straps and hope that they are involved in making music that matters to you.
 
Each strap is patched together will pieces of hand dyed Shibori silk. Each one is unique. There will be a total of 11 pieces in this series. Periodically we will release other series made with other Shibori made by  Brooke.  This is the first and these straps are simply stunning.
 
100% of the purchase price of $129.99 will be donated to the American Cancer Society by Jaykco.
